ELON MUSK’S X.COM BANNED IN INDONESIA, OVER DOMAIN PAST CRIMINAL RECORDS

The branding of twitter into x.com has been on the news lately, both in terms of users adapting to the new logo brand, and changes in the domain name. Indonesia has also gone ahead to block the access of the new domain name, due to the past record associated with the domain.

The domain name, which has been recently adopted by Elon Musk after purchasing twitter for the sum of $44-billion, is said to be associated previously to website which publish sensitive contents, adult entertainment, and gambling.

The Indonesia Ministry of communication and informatics (kominfo) director general by the name Usman Kanson, stated last week, that the ministry is currently in talks with working with X/Twitter on the issue, and also over 24-million X/Twitter account are inaccessible in majority of Muslim countries. 

The minister of communication and information Budi Arie in a press conference last week stated:

“As many as 846,047 online gambling content on websites and social media platforms have had their access cut off by kominfo from 2018 to 19 July 2023,”

More information from the minister indicated that the Ministry continues to monitor; working in hand with law enforcement agencies, to terminate access to various forms of prohibited contents such as online gambling sites, and also encourages the general Indonesian people to report contents related to such.
